Firefighter Probationary

Thorold Fire and Emergency Services is accepting applications for its 2026 career firefighter recruitment. Applicants must meet the department’s education, certification, licensing and Firefighter Services of Ontario testing requirements. Applications must be submitted by September 27, 2026.

Applicants must

Be at least 18 years old. Be legally entitled to work in Canada. Hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or an accepted equivalent. Provide proof of NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and II certification. Have certifications issued through a recognized program accredited by IFSAC or Pro Board, complete with the applicable seals. Provide a valid Firefighter Services of Ontario certificate showing completion of the required testing, dated on or after September 27, 2025. Hold valid First Aid and CPR certification at a minimum of Level C. Hold a valid Ontario Class D driver’s licence with a Z air-brake endorsement, or an accepted equivalent. Provide a driver’s abstract dated within 30 days when receiving a conditional job offer. Possess strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Demonstrate a strong desire to serve the community. Be able to follow instructions promptly and efficiently. Demonstrate a strong work ethic. Provide a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check at the candidate’s expense if given a conditional offer.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications and experience may make an applicant more competitive: NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator certification accredited by IFSAC or Pro Board. A university degree in any discipline. A community college diploma in any discipline. A recognized trade certification. Career or volunteer fire-suppression experience. An Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant, or AEMCA, designation. Documented community-service involvement, including the applicant’s role and level of commitment.

Firefighter Services of Ontario Testing The recruitment posting identifies the following Firefighter Services of Ontario screening components: Clinical Assessment CPS Aptitude Examination Medical Examination, including vision and hearing Tread Water Test Acrophobia Test Candidate Physical Ability Test, or CPAT Emotional Stability and Resilience Assessment Applicants are instructed to book all required testing in one appointment. Testing dates may become unavailable once sessions reach capacity, so candidates should avoid waiting until the deadline to register.
