Probationary Firefighter

The City of Guelph is seeking a Probationary Firefighter to join their Fire Services Department. This position is essential in providing emergency response, rescue, and fire suppression duties to save lives and property. The successful candidate will become part of a dedicated team working to ensure public safety in various hazardous conditions, while also participating in community engagement and education initiatives. The role requires commitment to continuous learning and teamwork, contributing to the overall mission of the Guelph Fire Department. Duties and Responsibilities Key duties and responsibilities: Combat, extinguish and/or prevent fires to save life and property. Provide emergency medical response and aid. Perform rescue/extrication operations in various hazardous conditions. Support work teams and allied agencies to maintain public safety. Perform station, equipment, and vehicle maintenance. Assist with Alarm Room Technician/dispatch duties as required. Contribute to public relations and education efforts. Commit to lifelong learning and continuous improvement. Participate in training exercises and courses. Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Qualifications and requirements: Completion of secondary school diploma (Grade 12 or equivalent). Successful completion of the National Fire Protection Association Firefighter Certification NFPA 1001 (I & II), and NFPA 472 or 1072. Possess and maintain a valid CPR BLS. Possess and maintain, at minimum, a First Responder Certificate. Possess a minimum DZ driver’s licence with a good driving record. 18 years of age or older and legally entitled to work in Canada. Able to perform strenuous physical labour within high-risk conditions. Good communication skills. Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office with accurate keyboarding skills.

Preferred qualifications: Post-secondary education. Other relevant NFPA Certification. Experience related to emergency services or community service. Skills in a field closely related to emergency services. Commitment to volunteerism and community involvement. Proven interpersonal skills. A solid mechanical aptitude. Good organizational skills with multitasking ability. Multi-lingual skills.
